HIGHLIGHTS
Takvor "Tom" Melikian, 82, was a well-known local business and community leader in the Springfield, MA area. He was born in Springfield, graduated from Springfield Technical High School and Gaugh Business School, and received a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Business Administration from American International College. Tom was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and served as Staff Sergeant, stationed in New York City and Saudi Arabia. He retired as Vice President of the former Monarch Capital Corporation, after 32 years of service. Tom owned, operated and developed numerous commercial endeavors including Horizons Restaurant, the Willow Glen Restaurant, Kakley Flowers, the VIP Lounge, Melikian Realty Trust and Linden Shopping Center, Inc.
He was past president of the Indian Orchard Chamber of Commerce, past treasurer of the United Social & Athletic Club, director of the Springfield Boy's Club, member and past director of Rotary International and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by the Hampden-Wilbraham Rotary Club, where he served as a director. He was active in the Indian Orchard Business Men's Assn., Wilbraham Economic Development Advisory Committee, Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Jaycees, American Legion Posts 277 & 420, Springfield Lodge of Elks #61, the Melha Shrine Temple and the Samuel Sherwood Lodge of Masons. He was also a member, treasurer and trustee of St. Gregory's Armenian Apostolic Church.
Tom was an avid card player, enjoyed good food, good wine and cigars and loved spending time with family and friends at his homes in Wilbraham and Boca Raton, FL. He was married to Ann (Atanian) Melikian for 59 years, and had three sons and four grandchildren.
